Melissa Woolverton (a native Canadian) is a professional classical pianist and lyric soprano. At age three, she began studying classical piano through the Royal Conservatory of Music, Canada, and continued her piano and vocal studies through out college at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota. While attending NSU, Melissa accepted a full time position as "Musical Director" of the Astors' Beechwood Theatre Company in Newport, RI. Currently, Melissa is adjunct faculty as an accompanist for the Salve Regina University Music Department, Newport, RI, and is a hired professional accompanist working in and throughout New England. She also maintains a private piano and voice studio. Melissa's extensive professional accompanying experience includes: musical theatre, opera, oratorio, classical and commercial/studio music and is a busy performer and adjudicator around the world.
Most recently, Melissa has performed with Ben Malensek of the Metropolitan Opera, and Suzanne Vega, Duncan Sheik, Gerry Leonard, and Kay Matschullat in Ms. Vega's music-theatre piece, Carson McCullers Talks About Love, at The Yard in Chilmark on Martha's Vineyard. The show will premiere at New York's Rattlestick Theatre in April 2011. Melissa is currently musical director for Salve Regina's production of Two Gentlemen of Verona. Performance dates are April 14 - April 17, 2011 at Newport's Casino Theatre. She is also musical directing Newport Children's Theatre production of The Secret Garden. Performance dates are April 29 - May 1, 2011.
